Our Story
Why We Started
Every journey begins somewhere.
Ours began with a simple question:
"Where do I even start?"
When our family began navigating autism, we quickly discovered there wasn't one place that connected everything we needed.
Every answer led to another question or phone call and/or uncovered another resource. Every step forward happened because we kept asking, learning, and connecting the dots.
Some days were overwhelming. Others brought victories we never imagined celebrating. Through it all, we realized we weren't just navigating a diagnosis — we were building a new way forward for our family.
Special Families Project was created not because we have every answer — but because we remember what it feels like to search for them.
Today, our mission is to help families find trusted resources, ask the right questions, build meaningful connections, and take the next step with confidence.
Because no family should have to figure it all out alone.
Welcome to Special Families Project. We're so glad you're here.
Meet the Founder
Meet Vita Robinson
Hi, I'm Vita.
Wife, mom of three amazing boys, founder of Special Families Project, and author of Connecting the Dots: One Family's Journey Through Autism, Advocacy, and Hope.
Like so many parents, I never imagined the journey my family would take. Raising two sons with autism has taught me more about patience, resilience, advocacy, and hope than I ever expected. Along the way, I spent countless hours researching resources, navigating therapies, attending evaluations and IEP meetings, and learning how to connect the dots between services, support, and everyday life.
I created Special Families Project because I know how overwhelming those first steps can feel. My mission is simple: to help families find answers, ask the right questions, and take the next step with confidence.
Through this website, my book, free resources, and our growing community, I hope every family who visits leaves feeling a little more informed, a little more encouraged, and a little less alone.
Thank you for being here. I'm honored to be part of your journey.
Our Beginning
Every family's journey starts with one question and one courageous next step.
Our Mission
Helping families connect resources, community, hope, and confidence.
Our Promise
No family should ever have to navigate this journey alone.
What We Believe
Every family deserves support.
No matter where you are in your journey, you deserve access to good information, practical tools, and a community that understands what you're going through.
Community makes us stronger.
Other families who've walked this road before you are one of your greatest resources. Connection and shared experience change everything.
Small steps lead to big progress.
You don't have to figure everything out today. Every single step forward — no matter how small — is progress worth celebrating.
Hope grows when we help one another.
When families share what they've learned, hope multiplies. We're here to help that happen — one family, one step, one connection at a time.
Looking Ahead
This Is Only the Beginning
Special Families Project is still growing. New guides, resources, tools, and community features are on the way — covering more topics, more diagnoses, and more stages of the journey.
Our vision is to build a trusted place where families can find guidance, practical tools, encouragement, and community throughout every stage of their journey — from the first overwhelming days after a diagnosis to the years of advocacy, growth, and celebration that follow.
We're honored to be part of your journey.
Let's Keep Connecting the Dots
Every step you take is a dot connected. We're here to help you find the next one.
Take a deep breath.
You don't have to do everything today.
We'll help you find the next step — one step at a time.
